The National Alliance of State Animal and Agricultural Emergency Programs (NASAAEP) is a 501(c)3 and is a member of the National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD).  We formed in 2006 after the events from Hurricane Katrina highlighted emergency planning and response gaps to save entire families. In 2008, our articles of incorporation were filed and approved.  In 2012, we received our 501(c)3 status from the IRS.  In 2014, we became a member of the VOAD. We are a collaborative alliance of state programs charged with planning, preparing for, and responding to disasters involving animals.  A primary goal of NASAAEP is to provide communication and networking to facilitate information sharing and effective planning at the local, state, and federal levels.  NASAAEP focuses on building local capacity since all disasters begin and end locally. NASAAEP fosters an active relationship with the National Animal Rescue and Sheltering Coalition (NARSC) to facilitate utilization of NARSC resources state and local programs.  Establishing a system for the appropriate utilization of national non-governmental animal welfare organizations allows states to plan and make effective use of resources available to them to respond effectively and appropriately to animal issues during disasters.
